A big construction project at the Beck Building, 400 Travis Street at Edwards Street, will mean downtown detours beginning Friday afternoon. Beck Building property manager Karen Kennington tells us that a number of 18-wheelers, construction equipment and crews will descend upon the building this weekend for work that will include air conditioning and other upgrades.

Beginning at about 4 p.m. Friday, May 17, expect the streets around the Beck Building to be impacted. The 400 and 500 blocks of Edwards will be closed to all through traffic, as will the 300 and 400 blocks of Travis Street.  Cones and signs will be up to direct motorists. All streets should be open again by Monday morning. For those looking to go to dinner at the Shreveport Club in adjacent 410 Travis, General Manager Ralph Edmonds says no worries, simply park at the entrance of the Chase Tower Parking Garage in the 400 block of Marshall Street and his valet service will handle moving your car. Then, you can either walk the less than half block to the club or they will have a cart to take you right to the front door!
